3dmark is a set of service utilities for Windows that test (benchmark) the performance of video cards and are managed by a unified graphical interface. Allows you to test the performance of the entire video processing board, and its individual blocks (shader, texture, rasterizing, etc.).
It can use both existing and prospective 3D visualization technologies to determine the likely performance of the GPU when running "games of the future". Equipped with integrated emergency shutdown systems in case of video card overheating (switchable). Recent versions have a set of tools to test not only the graphics card, but also other "iron" - when emulating the use of "heavy" in-game scripts and simulate the initiation of active work "artificial intelligence".
3dmark functionality
- Prompts user to select "game" (GPU), "synthetic" (individual blocks) or "special" (CPU, HardDisk, RAM, etc.) type of test;
- Invites the user to choose a method of 3D graphics construction to be used, including from a list of promising ones that have not yet been implemented in any game;
- Initiates a benchmark corresponding to the selected test type and 3D visualization method;
- Visualizes three-dimensional scenes that are "heavy on the hardware," thereby loading the hardware to the maximum;
- Logs the total number of frames visualized, average FPS, GPU/blocks response rate, voltage and temperature consumption;
- Instantly shuts down the graphics engine and crashes the benchmark if the graphics card overheats;
- Boosts 3D scene building and takes into account the number of missed frames, if the emergency shutdown mode is disabled due to overheating (dangerous for the hardware!);
- Outputs statistical information on the end of the benchmark, compares it to other tests, and gives an estimate of GPU/block performance.

Disadvantages
- Benchmark results can be affected by external factors (room temperature, dust on the graphics card, etc.)
- Free versions have a limited number of runs and/or reduced functionality;
- Disabling the emergency shutdown can cause "hardware" failure (especially true for old video cards without their own built-in emergency shutdown function).
